In short: PM Overview’s Allocation Breakdown chart shows how your team’s Jira work is distributed by label or by epic, in values and percentages calculated from story points. Filter to completed or allocated work, then view it per week, month, year, sprint or custom timeframe. It is built for stakeholder reporting and quarterly planning.

The question every stakeholder asks
“How much of the team’s time went to new features last quarter, and how much to bugs?” In plain Jira, answering that means exporting issues to a spreadsheet, adding up story points by label and building a chart. Then you do it all again next month.
A Pie Chart gadget doesn’t solve it either: it counts issues, not effort, so ten one-point bugs outweigh a thirteen-point feature.
What the Allocation Breakdown chart gives you
By label or by epic
Group allocation by the labels your team already uses, or by epic for initiative-level reporting.
Story-point weighted
Percentages are calculated from story points, so the chart reflects effort, not ticket count.
Completed or allocated
Report on what was delivered, or show what the team is committed to right now.
Weekly, monthly, yearly
Switch scale for a sprint review, a monthly update or an annual planning deck.

Hide categories by clicking them in the legend to zoom in on what matters for this conversation.
Ready to share
A clean chart you can screenshot straight into your stakeholder update. No spreadsheet needed.

Questions the allocation report answers
| Stakeholder question | How to answer it in PM Overview |
|---|---|
| How much of our capacity goes to bugs? | Allocation by label, completed work, last 3 months |
| Are we paying down tech debt as promised? | Allocation by label (tech-debt), monthly scale, compared month over month |
| How is effort split across initiatives? | Allocation by epic, current quarter |
| What did the team deliver this sprint? | Allocation by label, completed work, current sprint |
| Where will effort go next sprint? | Allocation by label, allocated (not yet completed) work |
Make your labels work for you
- Agree on a short, fixed set of labels (for example
bug,new-feature,tech-debt,ux). - Make the label required in your workflow, or check unlabeled work in refinement.
- Use epics for initiatives and milestones, and labels for the type of work. PM Overview can report on both.
Read more in our guide to using labels in your Jira dashboard.

What teams say on the Atlassian Marketplace
Great to use so far. I was looking for a time tracking and resource allocation dashboard.
Charles Smith, Marketplace review, Sep 2025
We were looking for this kind of plugin, one view to manage our project. Also helps with reporting and retrospectives.
Marketplace review, Aug 2024
This dashboard is exactly what we were looking for!

Frequently asked questions
How do I see resource allocation in Jira?
Native Jira has no allocation report. The usual workaround is a Pie Chart gadget on issue type or labels, which counts issues rather than effort. PM Overview’s Allocation Breakdown chart calculates allocation from story points, by label or by epic, and shows it as values and percentages.
Can I see how much time goes to bugs vs new features vs tech debt?
Yes. If your team labels work (for example bug, new-feature, tech-debt) or groups it in epics, the Allocation Breakdown chart shows the share of story points in each category for the period you choose.
Does it use story points or issue counts?
Story points. Values and percentages are calculated from story points, so one large story weighs more than five small tasks. That makes it a better measure of where effort actually went.
Can I filter by completed work only?
Yes. Filter the chart to completed tasks to report on what was delivered, or to all allocated tasks to show what the team is working on now.
Which time periods are supported?
Weekly, monthly or yearly views, plus individual sprints and custom timeframes.
Is PM Overview free?
PM Overview is free for Jira Cloud sites with up to 10 users. Larger teams get a 30-day free trial and then pay per user through Atlassian.
